Hi! I’m Christina, and welcome to my yoga YouTube channel, ChriskaYoga! Today, I am sharing a quick 10 minute yoga routine to relieve back pain caused by a herniated disc. It’s a very gentle hatha yoga routine that will extend the spine to alleviate some of that pain cause by a disc herniation.

Generally speaking, herniated disc is cause by repetitive spinal flexion, and in a lot of yoga classes, there are tons of poses where the spine comes into that motion of flexion (folding forward).

In this short yoga sequence, we are focusing on spinal extension. So, there is a lot of gentle chest opening poses and gentle back bending. This routine is also a bit energizing due to the nature of these poses, but it also offers a relaxing component for many since it relieves some of that pain caused by the disc herniation.

In this class, we will be moving through cow pose, melting heart pose, low cobra and full cobra (bujangasana), salabasana, and bridge pose (setu bandha sarvangasana).
