SARVANGA ASANA – THE SHOULDER STAND
Sarvangasana or Shoulderstand is an āsana. Many variations of the Shoulderstand exist, the likely most common to be taught is Supported Shoulderstand. Sarvangāsana is nicknamed “queen” or “mother” of all the asanas.
GARUDA ASANA – THE EAGLE POSTURE
The Sanskrit word garuda means eagle. In Hindu mythology Garuda is known as the king of birds. He transports the God Vishnu and is said to be eager to help humanity fight against deamons.The Garuda-asana will strengthen the legs, knees and ankles. It stretches and tones muscles of the leg and can help relieve cramps of the legs.
HALASANA – THE PLOW POSE
This yoga pose gets its name from the plow – a popular farming tool commonly used in Indian agriculture to prepare the soil for sowing crops. Like its namesake, this pose prepares the ‘field’ of the body and mind for deep rejuvenation. Halasana is pronounced as hah-LAHS-uh-nuh.
NAVASANA – BOAT POSE
The Full Boat Pose or Paripurna Navasana may look like a basic pose but the pose is known to be a lot more challenging than it actually seems. The Full Boat Pose requires a great deal of core strength along with a fair amount of flexibility and endurance of the body.
PURVOTTANASANA – UPWARD PLANK POSE
Purvottanasana means intense eastward facing stretch. As the sun “rises in the east and sets in the west,” the east is known as the direction of new beginnings and budding potential. In Upward Plank Pose, we draw on the strength of the core and leg muscles, as well as the support of the shoulders beneath the heart.
TRIKONASANA – TRIANGLE POSE
The triangle pose is consisted of two Sanskrit words Trikon and Asana. The meaning of trikon (त्रिकोण) is triangle while the meaning of asana is pose. Triangle pose is very important for health & wellness. It has greater significance and relevance in the domain of sound health. Extended Triangle pose yoga has the ability to bring stability, strength and stamina in one’s life. Therapeutically, it is good for strengthening the core and legs.
VAKRASANA – TWISTED POSE
Vakrasana is simplified form of Ardhamatsyendrasana. The Sanskrit name of both the postures differs whereas the English name remain same. At some places the Ardhamatsyendrasana is named as half spinal twist posture and Vakrasana is simply named as twist posture in English.
ARDHAMATSYENDRASANA – SITTING HALF SPINAL TWIST
Ardha Matsyendrasana (Sanskrit: अर्धमत्स्येन्द्रासन), Half Lord of the Fishes Pose, Half Spinal Twist Pose or Vakrasana is an asana that usually appears as a seated spinal twist with many variations, and is one of the twelve basic asanas in many systems of Hatha Yoga.This asana is named after the great yogi Matsyendranath (9th century Yoga guru who founded Hatha Yoga).
The name comes from the Sanskrit words ardha meaning “half“, matsya meaning “fish“, eendra meaning “king“, and asana (आसन ) meaning “posture” or “seat“.
The name Vakrasana comes from the Sanskrit “Vakra” (‘twisted or reverse‘).
DHANURASANA – BOW POSE
Dhanurasana is consisted of two words: Dhanu means ‘bow’ and Asana indicates a Yoga pose. Thus the name is ‘the Bow Pose’ because in the final position, the body resembles a bow. In this pose, the abdomen and thigh representing the wooden part of the bow whereas legs lower parts and arms representing the bowstring. This is all about definition of Dhanurasana. This is one of the important Yogic postures, which is known for many health benefits and advantages such as weight loss, strengthening the lower back, treating asthma, making your entire spine flexible and supple and so on. One can get the finest description of Bow Pose from Gherand Samhita: While lying on the ground, stretch your legs as straight as sticks. Catch hold of your feet with your hands behind the back. Adjust your body so that it takes the shape of a bow. Roll to and fro. This is Dhanurasana according to Yogis
