10 Yoga Poses for Sciatic Pain – May you feel relief!

This video is definitely designed for you to pause and take time to get into each pose. Usually I offer modifications or prop suggestions on the second side. Once you’re in the pose, I recommend staying for one to four minutes, depending on your level of comfort/discomfort. You don’t want to push to hard because you can aggravate your condition.

A good rule of thumb is that you want to experience the *edge of comfort* — not quite pain but not exactly pure relaxation. Keep in mind, though, that it’s especially important to listen to your body’s signals during this time of pain/inflammation. Time is truly the healer here, and rest isn’t the worst idea.

These poses can also be performed to prevent sciatic flare-ups when you are feeling well.

If your sciatic pain persists, see a doctor to figure out the source of your pain, which can range from perfectly within-“normal”-range inflammation of your piriformis muscle to a more serious underlying condition such as a ruptured/herniated disc.

The poses are:
1. Figure Four
2. Pidgeon Pose
3. Ankle-to-knee Pose/Fire log pose
4. Baddha Konasana (Bound Angle Pose)
5. Krounchasana (Heron Pose)
6. Gomukasana (Cow-faced) Pose
7. Reclined Cross Legs
8. Thread the Needle Pose
9. Supta Padangusthasana (Reclined Big Toe Hold) Twist
10. Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclined Bound Angle Pose)
