REPEAT THIS EXERCISE 4-6 TIMES
Benefits: improves focus, promotes clarity, calms and centers
What to do: When leading your child in Balloon Breathing, use your hands to demonstrate the way the belly should rise and fall. Using your hands will also provide a visual guide to the pace at which your child should be inhaling and exhaling. If your child is willing to close their eyes while practicing Balloon Breath, you can provide a visual focus by encouraging them to imagine the color of his “balloon.”
What to say: Sit or stand up tall or lie down. Place your hands gently on your lower belly. Close your eyes. Imagine your belly is a balloon. To inflate your balloon belly, breathe in slowly through your nose, filling up your balloon belly. Stick your belly out to fill it up all the way. Now slowly exhale and feel your balloon belly deflate. Let all that stale air out of the balloon to escape out through your nose. REPEAT 4-6 TIMES (Yoga for Children Chapter 5 page 96)
